Emma and Matthew are a couple of examples of young people starting with ASM as trainees who have developed into key members within the business.

Emma Seeley-Bucknell

Whilst studying product design at Nottingham Trent university, Emma joined ASM for 2 weeks work experience in the summer of 2016. Having enjoyed her experience with us Emma joined us full time in 2017 as a CAD detailer after graduating university with a 2:2.

She initially started assisting on the New Bracken House project in London, where she was enhancing her CAD skills and learning how to produce construction drawings. After New Bracken House, Emma continued onto the Marble Arch Place and Finsbury Tower projects.

In December 2020, in recognition of her commitment and potential Emma was promoted to project CAD leader, taking charge of the drawing side at our One Thames City project. Emma has frequent contact with the client, manages the drawing process of each area and is responsible for actively working with the client to solve problems.

I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the world of ductwork and getting to know the construction industry. Chris gave me a brilliant insight.

Matthew Howard

After completing his degree in Geography and Economics at Keele University, Matthew’s first job was at a firm specialising in property maintenance. This provided Matthew with some background knowledge in the construction industry and taught him the fundamentals of quantity surveying.

Matthew joined ASM in 2016 as an assistant Quantity Surveyor. As part of his initial training, Matthew spent six-months within the estimating department, learning how to compile take offs from drawings and the process of producing tenders.

After this six month period, Mathew assisted the senior QS on our large Crossrail project. Matthew has also assisted other members of the commercial team on the Centrepoint, Great Ormond Street hospital and Midland Metropolitan hospital projects.

Matthew is currently working as the Quantity Surveyor on our Battersea Power Station project, where his day-to-day responsibilities include the pricing and agreeing of variations with the client, producing applications and internal commercial reports as well as managing down stream accounts with our sub-contractors.

Whilst he has been with us, Matthew has completed his RICS foundation in Quantity Surveying course.

I really enjoy working for ASM as the varied nature of the role means I am always doing something different every day.
